As Emily said this is not about mcr, but comics.
No one wants to know how much you love mcr.
Go out to a store, browse the shelves, consult a shop assistant if you need to, but get yourself life! you effing need one
hi……………….i havnt read any of the comic books yet….=(….hope to though….im like a big fan of gerard way so most likey they are gona be freking awesome like him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
well………. i will say it THE BEATLES rule mcr come second but yes that is why i bought TUA and because i can not help but collect things i love such as mcr TUA and THE USED
i know this is not about music but still gerard is a great comic writer and artist
Duuude! In Graphic Comics the other day I came across the umbrella academy umbrella… I wanted it sooo bad. But it was $70 and I know I’d never use it. *Sigh* Still want it though.
Yeah the Umbrella Academy is AWSUMMMMM!!! I hav all of them. When I heard Gerard Way from My Chemical Romance a.k.a. the greatest band that ever wrote a song I ran to the stores to grab a copy. I hav the tee, the crest patch, & the coffe cup!
I got a crest patch for christmas. Its on my back pack and I love it.. Some yimes I take it of and put it in my jacket… But I think that it looks better on my jacket most of the time yet its still on my bag…..
where are the belt buckles!!!!!!!!!! i need them!!!!!!!!!! i need a belt buckle!!!!!!!!! if i don’t find one, how will i complete my 00.005 costume!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
At first I was a little skeptical about a comic written by a famous rock dude (even though I already thought he was awesome). But then I borrowed my friend’s copy of the Apocalypse Suite tradeback, and I fell in love with the comic. With Ba’s drawing, Dave’s colors, and G-Way’s writing, what’s not to love? (And I REALLY want those action figures!!)
I never thought I’d be one to ever read comic books, but I just had to TUA and I’m so very glad I did–I fell in love immediately. A Gothic feel infused with angst, copious extravagant bloodshed, unrivaled bizarreness, dark twisted strange laugh-out-loud humor (that at times probably shouldn’t be funny but is), randomness, and sometimes just flat-out absurdity, all written by one of the awesomest people ever to walk the Earth–what more could you want?
And to concur with revenge84 (using different terminology)– I whole-heartedly agree that My Chemical Romance is an extreme top-notch band, and yes, Gerard is undeniably completely adorable/sexy/hot/whatever-terms-you-wanna-utilize/etc. …but can we at least try to be a little more mature in our acknowledgement of said facts? You know…cut some of the SQUEEEEEEE!!!!!ing?
I just felt like stopping by to say a big thank you! I found Apocalypse Suite in Washington and got curious – read it and fell in love. The story, the pictures, the characters… I’m not sure why, but they are just so… awesome! This is an amazing comic book, and a while ago I bought Dallas in Gothenburg. I haven’t had the time to read it yet, unfortunately, but I can’t wait to read it! I love the front, tehee.
Even though it might sound a bit typical, I must also say that The White Violin is so beautiful. I want to see the movie soon, it’s really exciting.
I try my best not to write too much – my point was mostly to say thanks, so; Thanks for creating this comic book, it’s definitely one of my favourites.
Hey Gerard, nothing will replace my #1 favorite band and thats you guys! (by the way i love your comics too.) Keep up the good work cause your making a big success!
I’m a fan of MCR…I will say that, but due to reading the comments here and part of a comic (a site let me read the beginning :]), it obviously has nothing to do with the band.
Anyhoo – The Umbrella Academy looks wicked and (it’s taking everything I have not to put this in caps) I’m soooooooooooo freaking excited to read it ^_^
Love the comic. I’m a comic book FREAK since I was little and when I heard Gee from my Favourite band, the man who inspired me to write music, and Gabriel Ba who drew for “Casanova” were working on a comic TOGETHER, I freaked out, and bought it immediately. It inspired me to write comics even more, and read them more. And out of the countless comics I’ve read through out life, TUA is STILL my favourite. The graphics are amazing, the story is interesting, the dialogue is fantastic, and the legends who came together to write it are absolutely the best!
TRULY worthy of that Eisner award!
Hope there’s more.
Hi hi =]
I’ve always been a fan of comic books and MCR and I was reading an article in Rolling Stone about Gerard Way’s comics, so I thought I’d check it out. Does anybody know where to buy any of the comics, or somewhere that carries them, so I can see if I like ‘em?
Hello Scottie. Where ever you are I’m sure your local comic book store has a few issues. But if you want to order it online go to tfaw.com, they have all issues and some merch reedy for shipping.
No offense to anyone here or the work of Way, but I bought the first collection of the Umbrella Academy books and I found it lacking on multiple fronts. There’s so much hype, awards, critical appraisal and even movie deals surrounding this book so I’m left scratching my head and now scouring the net trying to figure out what people find so thrilling about this series.
Anyone care to enlighten me?
As a story teller myself, I found the book a goofy satire on the superhero genre, that also demands that I take it seriously at the same time. Which doesn’t work. It has a trite backstory and no real character development so I don’t care about anyone as I read or feel any real connection. The idea that superheroes have daddy issues could prove interesting, but never really goes anywhere until the anti-climactic ending. It’s ending is Deus Ex Machina at its worst when it comes to amateur story telling. A terrible No No in the writing world.
So as just another take on a super heroes saving the world, I don’t see any real characters or story elements to hold on to here. All I see is solid art, solid editing. Nice covers and great product marketing. None of which make up for what counts: The Story.
So I read reviews of this book and all I can find from everyone is: “Well, other famous people who’ve made comics made vanity pieces but Way doesn’t do this – which is refreshing!” So I’m to like a book because it isn’t a vanity piece like other ones were? Hm. The book seems to scream “I’m hipper than any other comic out there.” the entire time without actually telling much of a story. To me that is a vanity piece – when the author is writing loose, wank off action scenes with little other core story elements involved. Even Japanese action comics for kids have more character development and story happening.
Now, I’ve tried to meditate on the idea that I simply don’t get it. I’m not hip. I don’t see how amazing and genius this story and its characters are. I don’t see the sharp writing that gave this a best new ongoing series Eisner Award. So I’ve read it a few times now. I still feel it is an annoying read. Jarring all the way up to the Deus Ex Machina ending and cheesy wrap up. For me, this book is overrated and somehow got put on the “cool” list because of the situation surrounding the books creator rather than true story telling merit. It was a way to once again draw attention to comics by potential new readers. It was a way to sell books and cute pins with Umbrellas on them. Or should I say that it’s not that and that the comics industry is so starved for original content that something different but poorly conjured like Umbrella Academy really does seem like an award winner to them?
Either way, I’ve been looking for a good explanation of why this story and the characters resonate with people and I have yet to find a reason why.
